The European Union and UNDP have announced the launch of the 2020 application process for education grants for Afghan women to bring the second cohort of female students to study in Kazakhstan.
The scholarship programme is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is a cross-border initiative that gives an opportunity for Afghan women to obtain education from the top universities in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and thus enhance their skills, re-invent themselves professionally and obtain better employment opportunities after they return to Afghanistan.
Women holding Bachelor's or Master's degree will be awarded educational grants to obtain Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Certificates in Mining. Award winners will have a foundation English language course during first year of study. For the second year of education students will enroll at their faculty at one of the top universities in Kazakhstan – Kazakh-British Technical University.
The 2020 call for application has been recently launched in Afghanistan. Applicants will go via three stages of selection process to become a scholarship holder. The first stage has already started and will last until May 28, 2020. English language test and interviews will be held further in Kabul as next stages of competition. The scholarship winners are expected to arrive to Kazakhstan in August 2020 to start their English language foundation year.
