Improving government accountability in front of citizens by new Law on public services

May 29 Astana will witness round table aimed to present new initiatives on Law on public services. At the roundtable the issues of the expansion of rights and obligations of consumers of public services, improvement of the requirements to the standard and rules of public service, development of a new Register of public services will be discussed.
The law provides the expansion of rights of consumers of public services and their participation in improvement of quality of public services delivery. So, the Law has implemented the institute of appeal in case of violation of rights and legitimate interests of consumers of the services when getting public service. Also, requirements to the standard and rules of public service will be improved; every citizen will be involved into discussion of draft standards of public services and in informing on quality and procedure of public services.
Besides, the Law makes it possible to monitor public service rendering that enhances the role of non-governmental organizations and citizens in making managerial decisions.
Enacting new law should improve the level of responsibility and government accountability with regard to its services provided.
Central and local state authorities, non-governmental organizations and mass media will take part in the panel discussion.
The panel discussion is held as part of joint project of the United Nations Development Programme and the Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning of the Republic of Kazakhstan and is aimed to improve the system of provision and evaluation of public services.
