8 days left till the end of the crowdfunding campaign to open Kunde cafeJul 11, 2017
July 11, 2017, Astana - the United Nations Development Program together with Künde, “Bakyt” public association of disabled people and the Medical Center of Mental Health are running a crowdfunding campaign. The aim of the campaign is to open Künde Café – a place where people with special features in mental development – our interns (and from now on – workers) - could find their place in society.
Künde is an innovational pilot project through which people with special features in mental development could rehabilitate, learn, communicate, and become full members of society. Künde is one big family, consisting of 102 workers of Medical-Industrial Workshops, their parents, friends, psychologists and psychiatrists, students of Nazarbayev University, and professionals of catering business.
The project started one year ago in collaboration with the Astana Medical Center of Mental Health on the basis of Medical-Industrial Workshops for people with special needs. These Medical-Industrial Workshops are designed for a whole spectrum of activities (from art-therapy to wood crafting) and they constitute a space, where people with special needs in mental health could come with their parents and specialists and work together.
«There are approximately 600 thousand people with mental disabilities living in Kazakhstan. The majority of our teammates – those who went through the training and will start working with us – have never had a job before Kunde, but the problem is larger than that. We hope that Künde will show private and public sectors different ways of involving people with special needs for the common good. In fact, these people could be involved far beyond the catering sector, and that is one of the messages of this campaign” – said Murat Narkulov, a member of the crowdfunding campaign and the UNDP worker.
