On June 17-18, 2019, the United Nations Development Programme in Kazakhstan organised a technical visit of the Kazakhstan official delegation to Rome, Italy. This trip was carried out as part of a joint project with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan to improve the processes of coordination and consultation, interaction between state bodies in the field of law making.
The purpose of the visit was to study the Italian experience in terms of selection and promotion of judges, as well as the organisation of the Italian Judicial Council.
The Kazakhstan delegation included members of the High Judicial Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, officials of the apparatus of the High Judicial Council, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and a representative of UNDP.
During the visit, meetings were organized with representatives of the High Council for the Judiciary, the Supreme Court of Cassation and the Constitutional Court of the Italian Republic.
During the meetings, participants received valuable knowledge, including methods and technologies for selecting candidates for judges. The issues of career advancement of judges were also discussed.
The results of the organized visit defined that the model Italian judicial system is recognized as the most efficient to be applied for the High Juridical Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
This project is aimed at the implementation of the 16th goal of sustainable development, in particular, to ensure equal access to justice and the formation of an effective judicial system in Kazakhstan.
