UNDP took part at the opening ceremonies of the Art Hall «Step Forward» in Zhezkazgan and a multi-use co-working space for young people «Jalyndy Jastar» in Satpayev together with local authorities and NGOs within the framework of regional project «Strengthening Community Resilience and Regional Cooperation for Prevention of Violent Extremism in Central Asia», funded by the Government of Japan.
Both of the newly renovated facilities will serve as youth engagement platforms to expand their capacities through peer learning, expose them to new ideas and skillsets, help build networks and encourage their productive engagement in communities.
The «Jalyndy Jastar» Coworking Center in Satpayev is expected to provide youth with access to safe space with library, exhibition space, entertainment space, music instruments and laptops, which will enable them to engage in productive activities. The opening ceremony was celebrated with various performances of local youth demonstrating their energy and enthusiasm, which may become a force for positive change.
The Art Hall «Step Forward» in Zhezkazgan focuses on developing creativity of youth - this is a place where young people are given the opportunity to realize their potential through art. For example, there is a photo studio with professional equipment installed in the Art Hall where one can learn professional photo shooting. This place will also enable youth to experience various types of performances, including dancing and singing. Participation in these creative activities will help young people to connect with the local society, express themselves and realize their creative potential.
The regional project aimed at strengthening community resilience through youth engagement is funded by the Government of Japan for a total of US$ 6.4 million and implemented by UNDP. It aims to help build the resilience of vulnerable youth by improving socio-economic participation of young people.
