June 5, 2018, Astana – The representatives of the United Nations and the United Nations Development Programme, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the World Bank met with the akim of Astana, Mr Asset Issekeshev to congratulate him on the upcoming 20th anniversary of the capital city. After sharing their impressions on the recently held joint expedition to the Belukha Mountain (4509 m), the representatives of the abovementioned organizations presented Astana akimat with a picture of the Astana flag on the highest peak of Altai and Siberia,

An international expedition that included the representatives of UNDP Kazakhstan, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the World Bank, the Kazakh Tourism national company and local environmental specialists managed to reach the highest summit of the Altai mountains – mountain Belukha (or Muztau – 4509 m).

The goal of the expedition was to raise awareness on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, adopted by the UN) with the specific focus on four of the environmental ones, biodiversity preservation and the development of ecological tourism.

Aside from the main goals of the expedition, the team also congratulated Astana with its 20th anniversary by hoisting the city flag over the highest peak of the Altai Mountains.
