The Social Good Summit was held in KazakhstanOct 6, 2017
October 5, Astana – Social Good Summit is a global event that is held annually by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It brings together global leaders, entrepreneurs and social activists to promote UN Sustainable Development Goals. This year the summit was held in over 100 countries around the globe. Hosting the forum in Kazakhstan became a tradition as well – it has been held for the fifth time and has been bringing together creative people with innovative ideas that change our world.
The theme of this year’s forum is “Future in Focus”. Within the framework of this theme, the speakers focused on the intersection of modern digital technologies, education, and media resources. The following speakers participated in the forum: Astana Genplan and Astana Innovations, the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Volunteers, Nazarbayev University and Neupusti.net, Bolashak Engineering and Kunde Cafe, Beeline, Agrobiz.kz and Tandau Foundation, as well as young scientists, innovators, and people, who work on solving social, educational, and ecological problems. The speakers told about their work and shared personal stories, motivating the public for positive changes. The audience learnt how new technologies help people with disabilities pursue education at Nazarbayev University, how UNDP improves cities in Kazakhstan by embedding the Smart City technologies, how a special map for people with disabilities was developed and implemented, and how online volunteering broadens ones’ horizons through the use of the Internet.
«In recent years the Social Good Summit has been held in the framework of promoting Sustainable Development Goals that aim at improving the lives of all people. Sustainable Development Goals are closely connected to the topic of EXPO-2017 “Future Energy”. Kazakhstan made great progress in promoting green technologies, but it does not mean that we need to stop now. For example, we all should continue to work on the rights of women, on improving the infrastructure in a way that will take into account ecological needs, and on building more comfortable cities for living” –said UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Munkhtuya Altangerel.
Social Good Summit is a global conference. The largest and the most important events take place in the UN headquarters in New York and bring together global leaders and civil society to discuss possible solutions to the most serious challenges of our time. During the Social Good Summit people around the globe come together to reveal the potential of technology in transforming the world.
