Minister of Agriculture presented a seminar about joint UNDP agriculture projectsMar 29, 2016
On 26-27 March the Ministry of Agriculture and UNDP organized a special seminar for media to raise awareness about key aspects and achievements in the agricultural sector. The Minister of Agriculture Mr. A. Mamytbekov took part in the event and made a presentation on results of the reforms undertaken in the last five years.
He noted that in 2013 the Development Program "Agrobusiness-2020" was adopted. The program provided significant increase of state funding into this sector, which was increased from 56.4 bln KZT in 2010 to 176 bln KZT in 2016.
Moreover, new laws "On Agricultural Cooperatives" and relevant regulations were adopted to eliminate barriers to small agricultural business associations. These institutional changes aimed at creating favorable conditions for small agricultural production entities to unite and cooperate in making capital investments, selling their products, and sharing knowledge.
Another law on production of organic food was adopted in order to help create conditions for development of organic food production, regulation of organic food products turnover in the internal market, increasing export of organic products, and preserving natural resources.
In 2015, the gross output of agricultural products increased by 4.4% and amounted to 2.7 trn KZT. These results have been achieved due to increase of crop production by 5.6% (1.5trn KZT) and increase of animal products by 3.2% (1.2trn KZT). Investments into the fixed capital in the food industry increased by 28% and amounted to 55.9 bln KZT. However, investments into the fixed capital in agriculture decreased by 6.3% and amounted to 167.1 bln KZT.
Over the years of presence in Kazakhstan, UNDP implemented around 200 projects in partnership with the government of Kazakhstan, public organizations, private companies and other partners. In particular, UNDP, jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture, has implemented projects aimed at increasing wheat production, combatting desertification, pasture watering, biodiversity, etc.
UNDP, in accordance with the 2016-2020 Country Plan, will further coordinate its activities with the national priorities of the government.
