Regional Awareness Raising Workshop on Human Rights Protection Mechanisms in the Republic of Kazakhstan

On 15 August 2013 in Каraganda, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized a workshop for state officials and representatives of non-governmental organizations in the framework of the joint project “Improving human rights protection mechanisms and facilitating effective implementation of UPR recommendations in the Republic of Kazakhstan”. 

The seminar aimed at raising awareness on realization of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) recommendations and on implementation of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) in Kazakhstan. More than 40 representatives from central and local state organs of the Ministry of Justice, Prosecutor General's Office, and Ministries of Interior Affairs, local municipal authorities, representatives from the international and non-governmental organizations working in the area of human rights were invited to take part in this seminar. 

During the seminar, participants discussed the draft project on implementation of ICCPR in Kazakhstan with the aim of developing further recommendations and creating a better coordination between the relevant parties. 

The regional seminar will be also held in Ust-Kamenogorsk on 28 August 2013.
