Velo-competitions for children took place in Almaty
Velo-competitions for children dedicated to the International Children's Day and World Environment Day were conducted on a spare stadium of Almaty Central Stadium. The event was organized by "Velo-almaty" initiative group with the support of a number of commercial organizations, the UNDP-GEF "City of Almaty Sustainable Transport" project, and Traffic police department of Almaty.
Cycle race was held for the fifth time, and this year's competitions raised more than 200 children between the ages of 2 and 7 years.
A lot of fun quizzes and performance of "Young traffic inspectors" group on observance of city traffic rules by children and their parents were carried out for all children on the eve of school holidays. "Young traffic inspectors" movement marks its 40-year anniversary this year. The results of "Bicycle and ecology 2013" children's drawing contest were summed up at the event. The contest is held to draw attention of the younger generation to the environmental problems of the city and a healthy lifestyle.
Bicycle as a means of city transportation is an environmentally friendly transport allowing citizens to travel with benefits for themselves and the environment.
The organizers seek to push kids towards sporting achievements, instill a real interest in active, healthy and environmentally-friendly way of life, as well as draw parents’ attention to the safety of children on the roads during the school holidays.
