There has been growing pressure on the international business community to introduce new, low-carbon technologies and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Implementation of major investment projects are challenged to consider environmental impact and greenhouse gas emissions, and thus the Paris Agreement on Climate has been created to address the issue.
Capacity building of water management trainers in Kazakhstan

Almaty 2016 - 15-26 August Kazakh university teachers took part in a training course on political and technical aspects of integrated water resources management (IWRM) at the German-Kazakh University in Almaty. This was the first part of training for academic staff from the largest Kazakh universities within the Joint EU/UNDP/UNECE project “Supporting Kazakhstan’s Transition to a Green Economy Model”. Special text-books were developed for the training and will be used as teaching material at the universities.

19 August, 2016 Astana – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the United Nations Development Programme, the Government of Japan and Japan International Cooperation Agency have launched a pilot project of Kazakhstan’s ODA aimed at expanding economic independence and rights of Afghan women and entitled “Promoting Kazakhstan’s ODA Cooperation with Afghanistan”. The project will mark Kazakhstan’s first international cooperation for Afghanistan in the framework of national system of Official Development Assistance (ODA), while it helps Kazakhstan to strengthen its ability to administer its future ODA. The project is financed by the Government of Japan through the UNDP-Japan Partnership Fund.

Kazakhstan shares experience with specialists from Turkmenistan in South-South cooperation

Within the South-South experience exchange program, Turkmenistan delegation visited Kazakhstan from 17 to 26 July 2016. The study tour was organized for 17 professionals, among them representatives of the Turkmen Parliament, Government and other governmental bodies working in the area of agriculture, as well as the Adaptation Fund experts. The main focus of the tour was to learn the methods and techniques of water and land resources management, including the efficient use of resources in irrigated agriculture and crop rehabilitation in a changing climate.
Russian and Kazakh experts discuss transboundary water cooperation

Astana 2016- On June 23-24, 2016 Russian and Kazakh experts met in Astana to discuss the first results of assessments of transboundary rivers Ural and Kigac. Final results will be presented at the annual meeting of Russian-Kazakh Intergovernmental Commission on Joint Use and Protection of Transboundary Water Courses in autumn of 2016. If deemed necessary by both countries, it may lead to new arrangements on how to manage and share water resources in two basins.
